Activated Carbon Foam

Material · Made to Spec

Activated carbon foam — carbon where the air already goes.

Open-cell polyurethane foam carrying activated carbon powder or granules. The open cell structure lets air pass through the media rather than around it, so you get contact time without the pressure penalty of a packed bed.

Pore 10–60 PPI · carbon content typically ≥50%, customisable · width to 1.2 m · length 2 m · lamination available. Samples are free; shipping is not included.

Airflow & pressure drop Varies with pore density — data available on request for the grade you select

PPI is the trade-off dial. Coarse pores mean low resistance and short contact time; fine pores mean the opposite. Tell us the airflow and the depth you have, and the pore grade follows from those two numbers.

What it is, and what it is not

Carbon-loaded PU foam

This is what the term means in air filtration, and it is what we make: a polyurethane sponge with carbon bonded onto the cell walls.

Not structural carbon foam

The rigid, all-carbon material used in thermal and battery work is a different product. We do not produce it — worth saying plainly, because the two share a name.

Laminated if it must not shed

Loaded foam can release fines. Where that is unacceptable — a consumer appliance, an enclosed pet product — it ships film-laminated.

How it compares to our other media

Foam is the low-resistance option. Where the same depth has to carry more carbon, granular carbon mesh reaches ≥80% and is the only media we publish an ammonia figure for. Where the space is very shallow, ACF felt works in a millimetre or two — and unlike foam, the ACF fibre is the carbon rather than a carrier for it.

Airflow, the depth available and whether shedding matters. From those three we come back with a pore grade and thickness to compare — and material to test.
