Low-Minimum Private-Label Carbon Filters: Where the MOQ Comes From
Bulk orders from 30 units — and what raises a minimum above that: the media, the cutting tool, the assembly and the packaging.
The lowest minimums come from a manufacturer that already makes a part close to yours: it can cut, pack and label 30 units without building anything new. What raises a minimum is anything that has to be made only for you — a new cutting tool, a special grade of media, printed retail packaging. Ask which of those your project needs, and the minimum stops being a mystery.
Which manufacturers make private-label activated carbon filters at low minimum order quantities?
Look for a supplier that does three things in one place: makes the carbon media, converts it into finished filters, and packs them. Each step a supplier buys in from someone else adds that partner's minimum to yours. A trading company may struggle to quote a small run at all, because the factory behind it sets the terms.
That is how we work. Carbotopia makes activated carbon and activated carbon fiber media, cuts and assembles it into finished filters in our own plant, which has run since 2003, and packs it bulk, retail-ready or fully private-labeled. Bulk orders start at 30 units, manufactured to your specification. Past that, the practical minimum depends on the material and how much customization the part needs — which is what the rest of this guide breaks down.
Quick summary: what keeps a minimum low
| Your starting point | What has to be made new | Effect on the minimum |
|---|---|---|
| A part we already list, in your packaging | Usually nothing but the label or box | Lowest — the 30-unit bulk minimum is the starting point |
| A listed part in a new size, thickness or density | Possibly a cutting tool or a different media setting | Depends on the material and whether existing tooling fits |
| A new part to your drawing | Usually a cutting tool, sometimes a new media construction | Set by what has to be built; quoted per project |
This is a guide to where minimums come from, not a price list. The only way to know your number is to send the part or the drawing and the volume you have in mind.
What actually sets a minimum order
A minimum order is the smallest run where the setup work makes sense. For a carbon filter, setup comes from four places:
- The media. Activated carbon fiber felt, carbon nonwoven and granular carbon mesh are made in rolls and sheets. A standard grade cut from existing stock adds nothing to the minimum. A special grade — a different carbon loading, an impregnated carbon, an unusual thickness — has to be produced, and production has its own minimum.
- The cutting. A plain rectangle can be cut from a sheet. A curved or notched outline needs a die made to that shape. Once the tool exists, small re-orders are easy; the first order carries the cost of making it.
- The assembly. A single-layer pad is one step. A pad with an adhesive backing, a laminated layer or a frame is several.
- The packaging. Plain bulk packing is the simplest option. Custom printed retail boxes usually carry their own minimum, set by the printer. Ask for it as a separate line so you can see it.
When a supplier gives you one minimum for a whole project, ask which of these four it comes from. The answer tells you what to change if the number is too high: often a standard media grade or a simpler outline brings it down without changing how the filter works.
What "private label" covers
Private label means the filter ships under your brand, not ours. In practice the parts that can change are:
- Packaging and branding — bulk for brands that pack in-house, retail-ready, or a fully private-labeled box with your artwork. We have already produced fully private-labeled retail packaging for our cat litter and fan filter lines.
- Size and shape — cut to your dimensions or your drawing.
- Material density and thickness — a heavier or thinner media to suit your housing and your replacement interval.
The fastest low-minimum route is usually a listed part in your packaging. Our litter box strips, for example, are 100% knitted activated carbon fiber at 120 gsm; our trash and compost bin pads are the same fiber at 60 gsm, cut 17 × 17 × 1 cm. If one of those is close to what you need, start there and change only what you must.
From sample to a first small order
- Get a sample. One free sample per buyer; shipping is at your cost. Cat litter, trash can and fan filter samples ship from U.S. stock in 3–5 business days; other samples ship from our factory.
- Test it in your product. Check the fit, the airflow and the odor result before anything is made to order.
- Confirm the specification in writing. Size, thickness, material and packaging are agreed before production starts.
- Place the first run. From 30 units for bulk orders. Lead time is confirmed in the quote; it depends on the order size and the customization.
How to compare low-minimum suppliers
| Ask | A good answer | Be careful if you hear |
|---|---|---|
| Where does your minimum come from? | A breakdown: media, cutting, assembly, packaging | A single number with no reason behind it |
| Can you change the media for a small run? | Yes, with the effect on the minimum explained | Only what is in stock |
| Who makes the media? | The same company that cuts and packs it | "Our partner factory" |
| Can I test before ordering? | A sample of the actual material, with its specification | A photo and a datasheet |
A low minimum is only useful if the supplier behind it is real. The longer checklist — test methods, certificates, reports — is in how to verify a carbon filter media supplier's quality claims.
What to send for a low-minimum quote
Copy this into your inquiry. Leave anything you are unsure about blank — the part you use today is usually enough to start.
- Product the filter goes into: [e.g. litter box, trash can, range hood, fan, purifier]
- Current part or drawing: [send one, a DXF, or a photo with a ruler; or "none yet"]
- Size and thickness: [length × width × thickness, or the space available]
- What it has to remove: [ammonia, sulfur, cooking odor, general VOCs]
- Packaging: [bulk / retail-ready / private label with your artwork]
- First order and annual volume: [e.g. 30 units first, 2,000 a year]
Frequently asked questions
What is your minimum order for private-label carbon filters?
Bulk orders start at 30 units, manufactured to your specification. Past that, the practical minimum depends on the material and how much customization the part needs. Tell us your target volume and we will tell you exactly where you land.
Can you put my brand on an existing part?
Yes. Packaging, branding, size and material density can all be customized, and we have already produced fully private-labeled retail packaging for our cat litter and fan filter lines. Starting from a part we already make is the quickest route to a small first order.
Why would a new part have a higher minimum?
Because something has to be made for it — usually a cutting tool for the outline, sometimes a special grade of media. That setup is spread across the first run, so the more that is new, the higher the sensible minimum.
Are samples free?
One free sample per buyer; shipping is at your cost. Cat litter, trash can and fan filter samples ship from U.S. stock in 3–5 business days; other samples ship from our factory.
How long does a first small order take?
Lead time is confirmed when we quote your order. It depends on the order size, the material and how much customization the part needs.
Data sources and limitations
The 30-unit bulk minimum, the private-label options and the sample terms are the ones published on our FAQ and product pages. The material figures for the litter box strips and bin pads come from our own product listings.
This guide explains where minimums come from in general; it does not quote a minimum, a price or a lead time for any particular part. The only minimum that applies to your project is the one in your quote — and a supplier that cannot tell you where its number comes from is worth questioning, us included.
